The Santa Maria Acapela Choir will take the stage at 4:30 followed by local Girls Scouts who will sing holiday favorites from 5:15 to 5:45. The Mayor and other dignitaries will speak briefly at 5:45 and at 6:00 Mayor Coss will flip the switch that turns on the holiday lights. Santa Fe’s own Sol Fire closes out the evening with a concert that ends at 7:00 p.m. In addition to singing, the Girl Scouts will be selling cookies, hot chocolate and hot cider.
Visit the historic Santa Fe Plaza on any chilly, clear evening from Thanksgiving to New Year’s Day, and you will find silvery lights strung on every tree, sparkling against the gray winter dusk. The farolitos, luminous brown paper bags of candles and sand, are lit by hand each night, to flicker on the rooftops of the surrounding adobes. The City Different has a hushed, reverent quality a this time of year, regardless of the number of locals and tourists who partake of the numerous holiday festivities.Lighting of the Christmas Tree on the Plaza,
